earths crust. Highlighted by constantly changing weather patterns,
the parks outstanding scenery is a backdrop for high quality recreation.

The Alaska Fly Fishers (AFF) first came together in February of 1973.
Officially the Club was formed "to improve and increase the sport
of fly fishing in Alaska," especially fly fishing for trout. It
adopted the Alaska Mary Ann - a streamer derived from an Eskimo Lure
- as its official club fly. One of the noteworthy events held by the
AFF is its Annual Spring Seminar. Four consecutive Monday evenings in
April are dedicated to teaching fly fishing fundamentals. Presentations
dealing with equipment, the how - where and when of fly fishing South
Central Alaska, fly tying and casting are presented by club members.
Since its beginning, this educational opportunity open to the public
has provided a basic fly fishing orientation to more than 2,200 Alaskans
and plans for next year are already being put together.
The mission of the Federation of Fly Fishers is to lead activities
that enhance and support the fly fishing experience for all anglers
who fish with the artificial fly.
We are a nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to protecting
and restoring rivers nationwide. Founded over 25 years ago in a dusty
Denver office, today we have offices in Washington, DC and across the
country.
There is nothing that can match the sensation of being one with nature,
enjoying the great outdoors and tackling the challenge of fly fishing.
And there is no publication that can match the excellence of Fly Fisherman,
the world's number one fly fishing magazine. Outstanding articles and
features about the people and places that make the sport so special,
plus marvelous photography illustrating the top sports to fish make
this a must-read for all fly fishing enthusiasts.

Art is his life in Alaska, and all of Alaska has been his inspiration.
Artist Jon Van Zyle has seen more of Alaska in a much more unique way
than most can ever hope to experience. Jon has twice completed the 1049
miles of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race between Anchorage and Nome.
From these adventures he has created the yearly Iditarod posters series
commemorating the race and his involvement every year. In 1979 he was
made Iditarod artist, a title he still holds today. His acrylic paintings
go beyond the race, though, and encompass so much of Alaska's beauty.
Jon's reputation as a storyteller through his art is further enhanced
by his art originals, prints, posters and stone lithographs. Dog teams,
landscapes, wildlife, Alaskan faces from Native to newcomer, portray an
intimacy with the land and its people. He touches on history with studies
of Alaska pioneers and Native traditions and lore recording the Alaska
spirit. Public acceptance of his shared feeling through his art has been
his greatest reward.

This is especially true for Gray's. It is unlike any other sporting
magazine in America, and perhaps the world. It's not an inexpensive magazine
and appeals to a relatively smallthough very highquality-audience.
Its stories are about the sporting life and the interaction of people
participating in the sporting life. As a rule, it still doesn't cover
the latest equipment or follow the current industry trends. It doesn't
sell its covers to advertisers. All the stories begin on the right-hand
page, where, in most magazines, one finds advertising. It doesn't choose
to publish the hunting and fishing trips of celebrities. Many celebrities
have found their photographs on the pages of Gray's, but few, if any,
have been identified. The philosophy behind Gray's is simple: Continue
to produce the finest journal we can for our readers and advertisers while
supporting and enhancing our traditions afield. This is why Gray's has
not only survived for a quartercentury but also has flourished.
