David McLary wildlife art
Growing up in rural Indiana surrounded by farmland,
woods and streams, David developed an early interest in wildlife.
By the age of 13 he began learning taxidermy as a means to preserve
and bring the vanishing wildlife indoors. After serving a stint
in the Army as a cook, David began working as a taxidermist at the
Indianapolis Children's Museum and the (then new) Indiana State
Museum. He also began working with stained-glass and later focused
his attention more closely on sculpting and etching glass. David
went on to become the Curator of Exhibits at the Indianapolis Zoo
which provided endless models of wildlife. Since retiring in 2002,
he has devoted more time to his passion of creating wildlife art
from glass, stone, fiberglass and cold-cast bronzes.
